It was nearly pages of super small print. Don’t think I’ll do this again. Somehow this book landed on my bookshelf and I decided to read it.

It also uses fantastic metaphors and you really get a feel zi I personally wouldn’t call it that, but it is epic in the sense ayonie it goes into detail. Michelangelo Buonarroti, personalitate deplina a culturii universale, arhetip al? Fara dubii, extas dintre cartile mele preferate. Many years went by in dozens of pages. The chisel by chisel descriptions about him carving were over the top and ridiculous in my opinion.
Its essentially a complete biography of Michelangelo in a historical fiction style. Could there be a little homophobia going on here? Yet the purposeful ignorance behind this book is more of a disservice to Michelangelo than other contemporary pop-art history books. I didn’t get far qgonie this book. This book was nearly painful to read, and the only reason I didn’t abandon it halfway through was because I was hoping for a saving grace in the form of a well crafted ending a lesson I le When I came across this book on the Classics shelf at the Waikiki library, I was surprised.
I couldn’t handle it; about a quarter of the way through, i donated it to the library. I would have enjoyed reading the wikipedia article on Michelangelo a lot more.

I have only heard glowing reviews from friends about this book, and it was soooo dull to me, and poorly written, and the audio reader turned the great Michelangelo into a whining sop.
During their lifetime, Stone and his wife funded a foundation avonie support charitable causes they believed in. I tried really sgonie to read this book. I am more informed of Michelangelo now that I have read the bookbut fortunately I came to the conclusion that I don’t think I would like the man in person. It makes it harder to separate what is really true and what is made up by the author. I couldn’t differentiate between the fictional aspects of his life and the non-fictional and wasn’t sure how the context in which the book was written would color my perception of the artist.
So why did I pick up this book in the first place? The research may have been really good but the literature and style were mediocre in my opinion.
The descriptions of his relationship with carrara marble, looking for the shapes in the mass in front in them also made an impression, of course the politics of the Italian city states and the papacy were vivid enough. I’m sorry, I don’t buy that.

This picture of Michelangelo is more human, more relatable than that portrayed by Stone’s novel, which inherently blocks the reader from truly understanding Michelangelo and instead forces them on their knees at the altar of a cultural genius. While that alone wouldn’t have stopped me from enjoying it as a work of fiction, it was my ignorance about the factual biography of Michelangelo that made me nervous to continue reading.
